Bio
Elise Marquis, PhD in Biological Oceanography, has a deep passion for studying coastal and pelagic ecosystems, as well as the dynamics of marine trophic networks, with a particular focus on planktonic communities. With over twenty years of experience in both fundamental research and consultancy, she has applied her expertise across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
For more than seventeen years, Elise has been dedicated to studying the ecosystems of the Arabian-Persian Gulf. Since June 2021, she has served as the Director of the Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue Center on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, where she oversees the center’s missions and operations encompassing scientific research, the rehabilitation of wild marine fauna, and educational initiatives.
Her work contributes significantly to the preservation of marine ecosystems at local, national, and regional levels. Among the Center’s flagship projects, she has launched a research program dedicated to studying the Gulf’s seagrass meadows, as well as an initiative aimed at developing sustainable aquaculture practices in the United Arab Emirates.
