Frédéric Lagrange is Professor of Arabic Studies at Sorbonne Université and currently Director of CEDEJ (Cairo). His research has focused on issues of language and gender in Arab cultural productions from the medieval period to the present. He co-issued Culture Pop en Egypte, Entre Mainstream commercial et contestation (Riveneuve, 2020) and Pop Culture in the Arabian Peninsula, Societal Expressions, Commercial Issues and State Cooptations (Arabian Humanities online, 2023). He has also worked on the history of music and singers in Egypt in the 20th century. He is a translator of classical and contemporary Arabic literature.
