Our History & Collections

Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (SUAD) Library was established in October 2006 and serves as a vital knowledge hub supporting the university’s diverse teaching, learning, and research needs. Our extensive collection includes philosophy, psychology, religion, politics, economics, law, language and literature, mathematics, physics, management, art, history, archaeology, and geography.


Special Collections

Hague Academy Collection: SUAD has acquired 350 volumes of collected courses from The Hague Academy of International Law through a generous donation. This collection serves as invaluable guidance for


The Crouzet Collection SUAD Library houses the distinguished private collection of the late Professor Francois Crouzet, a renowned scholar of economic history. This collection focuses on economic history and the historical development of France and Great Britain.

Vision

The Library aims to be one of the top academic libraries in the region, a facility recognised for enriching the intellectual and cultural life of the University, the Nation, and the Gulf Region.


Mission

The Library mission is to support and strengthen teaching and research at the University. The Library connects users with information by developing a collection around the University’s curriculum and research initiatives, facilitating access to resources, guiding users to the effective use of information, and offering research assistance.

Code of Conduct

To maintain an environment conducive to focused study and scholarly work, all library users are expected to adhere to our established code of conduct. Non-compliance may result in sanctions including removal from the library premises, suspension of library privileges, or referral to university administration.


All library users should abide by the following rules and must not:

  • Remove or attempt to remove library materials, equipment or property without having them issued, or without proper authorization
  • Fail to return library material on or before the expiration of the loan period or when requested to do so by the library
  • Consume food in the library. Only drinking water is allowed
  • Litter in the library
  • Smoke in the library
  • Mutilate library materials by marking, underlining, or removing pages or portions of pages, damaging library materials or property in any way
  • Be in unauthorized areas of the library, remain in the library after closing or when requested to leave in emergency situations or evacuation drills
  • Open emergency exits except in emergency situations
  • Open any window in the library
  • Maliciously access, alter, delete, damage or destroy any computer system or software
  • Conceal library materials in the library for exclusive use
  • Fail to pay for lost or damaged library material
  • Create any form of disturbance which interferes with the normal use of the library
  • Act sexually offensive or verbally abusive towards other users
  • Harass library staff or users
  • Play music in the library
  • Talk on mobile phones in the library. Phones should always be in silent mode
  • Use the library computers for anything other than authorized purposes

Visitor Information

Public Access The library welcomes members of the public to utilize our open reading areas and explore available resources. Visitors may access materials within the library during operating hours; however, currently borrowing privileges are reserved for registered SUAD community members.
