Sustainability – Programmes and Courses

Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi offers a range of courses on sustainability within the curricula of several academic programmes, both undergraduate and postgraduate. 

 

Bachelor in Geography and Planning: The programme combines social and environmental sciences to help students understand global challenges and sustainable development from local to global levels. It covers environmental impacts, sustainable urban planning, and risk management. Students learn practical skills like cartography and data analysis and gain real-world experience through internships in areas like sustainable development and urbanism. This prepares them for careers in various sectors focused on creating a more sustainable future. 


Master in Sustainable Environmental Engineering and Law: A multidisciplinary programme focused on equipping students with the knowledge and skills to tackle environmental challenges sustainably. It combines environmental engineering, geography, and law, offering both theoretical and practical learning. Students learn to develop sustainable management strategies for resources, understand human-environment interactions from legal and spatial perspectives, and utilise advanced tools like GIS for environmental analysis. The programme emphasises real-world application through projects and prepares graduates for diverse careers in environmental sustainability across government, NGOs, and various industries. 


Master in Urban Planning and Development – Urban Innovation and Sustainability: The programme focuses on educating urban planners to manage city growth effectively and sustainably. It emphasises understanding the environmental impact of planning, using tools like GIS, and studying policies for sustainable urban development. Modules cover topics like public space, transport, and environmental management. Graduates can pursue careers in environmental management, urban development, and related fields, contributing to more sustainable cities. 


Master in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage: The programme focuses on the sustainable management, conservation, and promotion of archaeological and cultural heritage. Contributing to sustainability by ensuring the long-term preservation of non-renewable cultural resources, providing historical insights into human-environment interactions to inform present-day sustainability, supporting sustainable tourism that respects both cultural and natural environments, utilising technology for non-destructive and lasting preservation, adopting an interdisciplinary approach to heritage management and addressing the specific challenges of preserving heritage in the context of rapid development in Abu Dhabi and the Emirates.
