Sustainable Transportation: Greener Ways to Move at SUAD
Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi is committed to building a low-carbon campus by promoting sustainable, efficient, and accessible transportation solutions. The university aims to reduce its environmental footprint while improving the commuting experience for students, staff, and faculty alike.
Student Bicycle Programme
In 2025, SUAD launched a student bicycle initiative with 19 bicycles available across campus. These are:
- Freely accessible to students
- Strategically placed near entrances and housing
- Designed to reduce short-distance vehicle usage while encouraging active mobility
Electric Vehicle Infrastructure
To support the transition to greener commuting, SUAD has installed 15 electric vehicle (EV) charging ports, allowing faculty, staff, and students to conveniently charge their EVs during the day. This supports both personal and future institutional electric vehicle use.
E-Bike and Micromobility Integration
SUAD is actively promoting micromobility options such as e-bikes by:
- Providing designated e-bike parking areas
Hybrid Vehicles and Efficient Staff Transport
As part of the fleet sustainability efforts:
- Two hybrid vehicles have been introduced for staff transport within the campus, replacing traditional fuel-based cars.
- A 26-seater bus is used for regular commuting staff, optimising fuel use while reducing the number of single-occupancy vehicles entering the campus.
- These efforts are aligned with the university’s goal to lower fuel consumption, emissions, and traffic congestion.
Bus Route Optimisation
The university has also reduced oversized buses for low-demand routes and adjusted schedules to reflect actual commuting patterns. This helps:
- Avoid unnecessary emissions
- Improve operational efficiency
- Enhance comfort and punctuality for users
Toward a Clean Mobility Culture
SUAD is proud to lead the transition toward a greener, more sustainable transport model. By combining traditional commuting with low-emission and active travel options, the university is cultivating a campus that supports well-being, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.
