RESEARCH
Scientific research is a core pillar of Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi’s vision and ambition. The university plays a key role in advancing research and innovation in the UAE and the Gulf region, especially through the SAFIR Research Institute (SAFIR meaning “ambassador” in Arabic). SAFIR currently houses seven research centres focused on strategic topics and takes a multidisciplinary approach to inquiry a wide range of research fields.
Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi Research Institute aims to develop cutting-edge research aligned with the strengths of Sorbonne University and Université Paris Cité. SAFIR supports the goals of SUAD’s strategic plan, Abu Dhabi and UAE’s Vision 2030, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Research at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi brings together the expertise of resident researchers and academic staff from the partner universities in Paris but also the contributions of students from all over the globe, while renowned research institutes in France and major public and private entities in the region collaborate with SAFIR on innovative projects. Sorbonne Centre for Artificial Intelligence (SCAI) and the Ocean Institute, developed jointly in Paris and Abu Dhabi, are leading these international and cross-sector collaborations.
